How does the water recycling system
work?
Used water is collected from the washing machine, shower and bath.
It is then filtered, sanitised and stored in a holding tank until needed. The
recycled water is then pumped to the toilet cistern. This saves
good water from going down the drain.
How does the recycled water get
from the holding tank to the toilet cistern?
By a 12 volt pump operated by a float switch in the cistern. As
the cistern is flushed it turns on the pump and fills the cistern
with recycled water.
How much water is stored in the
holding tanks?
400 litres of water which equates to approximately 40 flushes of the toilet.
How do I keep the system full?
You must use the washing machine, shower and bath.
Where does most of the water come
from?
The washing machine.
Does it make any difference how
many people live in the house?
No, more people will use more water in the shower etc so this will
even out the use.
Can the recycling system overflow?
No, when the holding tank is full surplus water by-passes the
system to the gully trap.
What happens if I have a lot of
visitors such as a party?
You can switch back to the mains supply at any time simply by switching
of the recycling pump transformer and turning on the mains tap by the cistern.
Does the system have to be cleaned
out?
Yes, about every 6 to 12 months depending on use. This can be done
by a contractor or you can do it yourself.
Do I have to replace any filters
or any other parts?
No, the filters can be dismantled and cleaned and refitted to the
system. No replacement parts are needed.
Where does the system fit in relation
to the house?
Outside the house in the ground near a gully trap.
Does the water smell?
No, because we use calcium hypochlorite tablets to prevent this occurring.
These are the same as used in spas and swimming pools.
Where do you put the calcium hypochlorite tablets?
Into the dispensers fitted to the top of the holding tank.
Will the calcium hypochlorite affect my septic
tank?
The majority of the hypochlorite is used in the recycling system and
the small amount left will not detrimentally affect your tank.
What quality is the water?
The following is a sample of the water quality produced by ECOplus water recycling system.
